ANN FRANCES (DOUGIELLO) ECKERT

July 26, 1933 – October 1, 2018

“For Those That Loved Her”

Ann Frances (Dougiello) Eckert went to be with her beloved Fred, and gracious Father on October 1, 2018. She was born July 26, 1933 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Her elementary years were at Sacred Heart School in Bridgeport, and she proudly graduated from Lauralton Hall Preparatory Girl’s Academy in Milford, CT. She completed her formal education at St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Bridgeport, and was awarded her degree – joyfully fulfilling her dream to become a Registered Nurse. Over the next thirty years, she worked in labor and delivery at several hospitals – bringing beautiful babies into this world. When she came to Arizona, she continued to work in nursing or take care of little ones until she retired.

In 1954, she married the love of her life, Frederick Elmer Eckert (who passed on in 2005), also of Bridgeport, CT. The couple danced their way through life – traveling, golfing together, the “426 Club”, and simply being with each other.

Together, Ann and Fred worked hard and Ann leaves behind a strong Eckert family that she and Fred created: Her children Michele Ann Eckert (late John Morrison) of Chandler, AZ, Jody Lynn Eckert (Ed Garelick) of Manhattan, NY, Paul Frederick Eckert (Ann LaMancuso) of Buffalo, NY, and Nanette Gail (Eckert) Sackett (Ralph Sackett) of Mesa, AZ.  Ann has seven grandchildren: Katelyn (Barnes) Girard (David), Charles Eckert (Kelsie), Dawn (Eckert) Hammer (Bri), Natalie Barnes, Dana Eckert, Stephen Eckert, and Ella Rose Eckert. Ann is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Alison (Mark) Tortelli, and Julie LaMancuso; and four great grandchildren Brooke Ann and Lucas Girard, Jalen Eckert, and Sienna Tortelli.

All her life, visiting new places with children – or to see grandchildren – were important memories to her, and she traveled to China, Colorado, California Beaches, Canada, Greece, Ohio, Washington, Oregon, North Carolina, Switzerland, and other special places with a spirit of adventure and love.

She was always the “elegant” woman – a generous, loving mother, kind neighbor, and sweet friend. Mostly, she was our wonderful Mom, and her grandchildren’s “Gigi”.  We will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life  Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 19

th

, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, followed by a coffee/dessert/beverage service in Lindsay Hall, on the church grounds.
