Gearldine (Jeri) May

Gearldine (Jeri) May, left to be with our Lord and Savior on April 20th, 2023 at the age of 86. She was born on November 10th, 1936 in Mesa, Arizona to Charles Albert Horne and Reva Tryon.

Jeri was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many. She will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity. She unwaveringly and invariably honored birthdays for family, friends, and members of her church family by sending them cards or blessing them with a birthday call. She was proud of her woman-owned business, May Charters that she and Jack started together. It was one of her ways to serving her community.

Jeri May grew up in Mesa and Phoenix. She graduated from Gilbert High School. She worked for Western Savings from April of 1957 to April of 1981. She married the love of her life, Otis William (Jack) May in 1961.

She and Jack started a charter bus business in May of 1961. Jeri served as President of May Charters from May of 1961 through February 2020. Jeri became a Christian when she was 23 at a Thanksgiving Revival in North Phoenix Baptist Church. She was very active at First Baptist Church in Chandler, ministering to teenage girls. She has been a member of Corona Baptist Church since December of 1969.

She and Jack selflessly chose to extend care and guidance, to provide a safe and loving environment and to help navigate life’s challenges with compassion and support to children of close family members. They were legal guardians to John Horne and Alec May during the boys’ high school years and foster parents to both Sheri Bailey and Kim Mitchell.

Jeri is survived by her brother, Charles Richard Horne and his wife Yoshiko residing in Tokyo, Japan; half sister Nancy Horne; half sister Denise Horne; half sister, Radine and her husband Michael Boykin; half brother, Ed Reynolds and his wife Sue; her nephews, John Horne, Alec May and Marcus Boykin; her nieces Revaan Duvall and Michelle Pettas. Jeri was preceded in death February of 2006 by her husband, Otis (Jack) William May and her parents, Charles Albert Horne and Reva Reynolds.
