Artemisa “Artie” Sapien was the 4th daughter born to Francisco S. Valenzuela and Maria Jesus Trujillo on November 29, 1943, in Queen Creek, Arizona. Artie grew up in Queen Creek, attending elementary and middle school there and eventually graduating from Chandler High School.
After high school, Artie worked as a bookkeeper, and when she retired, she worked for the Tempe school district testing ESL students. When Artie wasn’t working, she would camp in Northern Arizona, visit Rocky Point, hit the casino with her sisters, or spend time with her family.
Artie’s family meant the most to her, and she loved each and everyone dearly. Artie is survived by her sisters, Armida Valenzuela, Maria Jesus (Jessie) Quintero, Josephine (Josie) DeLao, her daughter, Francisca Griffiths (Scott), and her grandson, Rico Medina. Along with all her nieces and nephews that she treasured.
Artie’s biggest wish was that her family and friends remember all the good times together, that she touched everyone’s life and made memories to cherish as they did for her.
