, age 43 of Chandler, AZ passed away November 11, 2021, at the Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, AZ with Covid 19 complications. She was born in Fresno, CA on September 13, 1978. She graduated from Bullard High School and got her AA Degree from Fresno City College. She moved to Arizona from California just nine months ago.
Athena started her working career at Bank of America Call Center and worked in Customer Service for many years. In 2010, she took her last dime and flew to Chicago to apply to be a flight attendant for Skywest Airlines. Competing with hundreds of people, she landed the job and has been flying ever since. Athena loved to fly and loved her job. She also got interested in EMT work on the side and took the training and got certified. She could handle crisis experiences in a calm manner.
In 2013, when her sister was having challenges, Athena stepped up and got legal guardianship of her niece, Isis. She is dog-headed when she believes in something and she moved mountains to take on that girl! She’s loved Isis as her own for 8 years. Even though she returned the legal guardianship back to her sister three years later, they have both continued to co-parent Isis together.
Athena is survived by her mother, Rev. Dr. Janette Freeman, brother, Peter Sorensen, sister Arielle Sorensen, niece Isis Espinoza and father, Peter Sorensen, Sr., grandmother Jennie Lee, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Athena is remembered by all who knew her as a kind and loving soul, a gentle spirit as well as a warrior goddess! She would fight for what she believed in-to the end. She had the spirit of an advocate. Athena loved to sleep and cuddle Chloe, her cherished chihuahua. She would always say “I LOVE to sleep more than anything!”
