Betty Jane Hermann

Betty Jane Hermann (nee Goeres) was born in Lemmon, SD in April 1940 and passed on to heaven in September 2026 in Phoenix, AZ.

Betty was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. She was raised in the farmlands of South Dakota, growing up learning the ethics of hard work, family and community that shaped her life. She worked as a teacher and a banker, loved by students and customers. Family was all important to her, and she kept in touch with siblings and her extensive family scattered across the US, traveling often to visit them. She loved travelling, and went on frequent “Goeres girls” trips with her sisters, daughter-in-law and nieces, making some of her most treasured memories. She was a caring and giving person, active in her church and their charitable activities, and the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).

Betty loved playing piano, and never enjoyed it more than when surrounded by family singing carols at Christmas. Betty adored playing bridge and boardgames, and could never get enough of either. She loved entertaining and was always happiest when surrounded by family and friends. No one ever went home hungry from a Betty event. Betty was extremely personable and made friends immediately of almost everyone she met – she knew no strangers, only friends not yet met.

Betty leaves behind her husband of 64 years Wilmer Hermann; sons David & Anne (Erichsen) Hermann and Jeff Hermann & Rich Hoevel; sister Susan (Goeres) Jones; sister-in-law Sharon Goeres, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in passing by her parents Frank and Katherine Goeres, brother Donald Goeres, sister Karen & Corky Bingham, and brother-in-law Bob Jones.

A beautiful light has gone out in this world, and we are all of us the poorer for it.
