Charles (Charlie) Bruce Brown
of Sun Lakes passed away on Sunday, August 21. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by family at the age of 88.
Charlie was born in Osborne, Kansas on May 31, 1934 to Charlie and Nina Brown. He attended school in Cedar Rapids and Oskaloosa, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University in Engineering and attended law school at Drake University in Des Moines, IA and American University in Washington, D.C. While attending law school, he worked for the U.S Patent Office in the Department of Sprinkling, Spraying and Diffusing.
Charlie was in the US Air Force for three years, stationed at Wright-Patterson AF Base in Dayton, OH. In
1961, Kaiser Engineers in Oakland, CA
hired him as an attorney and he was temporarily dispatched to Mountain Home, Idaho where he met his wife, Doris, on a blind date. During his 37 years working for various Kaiser companies, Charlie and Doris lived in the Washington, D.C. area, San Francisco Bay Area, and even a stint in Greece. In 1966 after returning from Greece, Charlie worked for HEW in Washington, D.C. and attended night school at Georgetown University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Taxation Law. He then returned to Oakland, CA and continued working for Kaiser. Retirement brought Charlie and Doris to Sun Lakes, AZ where they enjoyed golfing, community activities, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris, his son, Matthew (Shirlee), of Ahwatukee, daughter, Jennifer Miller, of San Diego, and two grandsons, Forrest and Tobin. He is also survived by his brother, Steve, of Oskaloosa and sister, Linda, of Iowa City. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather. Those who knew Charlie will remember him for his smile and sense of humor.
