David Lee Calhoun, 77, passed away on May 19, 2025, in Chandler, Arizona surrounded by his wife Marita, daughter Gina and son-in-law Richard. Born on May 27, 1947, David was known for his sharp wit, dark humor, and intelligence.
David proudly served in the Army, retiring after a distinguished career that earned him the respect and camaraderie of his fellow soldiers. Following his military service, he worked as a security officer, a role he dedicated himself to with the same commitment he showed in uniform.
He had a passion for diving and a unique hobby of collecting t-shirts with witty sayings, which often reflected his humorous take on life. He was also a proud member of Mensa. David's family was central to his life. He is survived by his wife, Marita Calhoun; his children, Paul Calhoun, Gina Close (Richard), Tracey Calhoun, Kim Calhoun, and John Calhoun; and his stepsons, Marcus and Troy, along with their children. David was a proud grandfather to Zachary, Steeley, Shawn, Nicole, Kestrel, and Jack. He also leaves behind several cousins and newly discovered half-siblings. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Palkovic.
Services to honor David's life will be held at Whitney & Murphy Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive, Chandler, AZ 85225. A Viewing is scheduled for 9:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 am, and Burial at 12:30 pm on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
