Diane Jean Nelson, 91, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026. She was born on November 4, 1934, in San Jose, California, to Jean Katavich and Darrell Matutinovich.
Diane was the devoted wife of Robert Nelson, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. In her early years, Diane dedicated herself fully to her role as a housewife and mother, creating a warm and loving home. In August of 1969, she and her husband moved to Arizona, where they purchased and operated a retail store in downtown Chandler. During this time, Diane became actively involved in the community and volunteered at the local hospital, offering compassion and care to those in need.
In 1979 Diane and Robert left Arizona and relocated to Utah, Washington, and Nevada in support of her husband’s career. Following his retirement in 1997, they made their home in Mesa, Arizona, choosing to be closer to their daughters.
Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Milton Nelson; her son, Dean Robert Nelson; and her daughter, Delene Billie Schrage Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Davis and son‑in‑law Jack; her cherished grandchildren Jef Schrage Jr., Courtney Schrage Todd, Magnum Davis, December Davis, Skyler Schrage, Calyber Davis, and Ruger Davis; and 11 great‑grandchildren Nathan, Gage, Andrew, Brogen, Jackson, Drake, Coston, Weslie, Ridge, Sutton, and Colsen, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy.
In accordance with Diane’s wishes, she will be cremated, and no funeral services will be held. Her ashes will be privately spread by her family at a later time. Diane will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family, her kindness, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on through her family and the lives she touched.
