Douglas Grant MacDonald

Jan 10, 1948 — Sep 1, 2026

Douglas Grant MacDonald passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026.

Doug was born on January 10, 1948, in Schenectady, New York, the eldest of three sons of the late Kenneth and Eileen MacDonald. He grew up alongside his brothers, Jerry and David, making cherished memories at Nanny and Poppy’s camp on Great Sacandaga Lake and developing an enduring love of golf.

In 1966, Doug married his best friend, Tricia MacDonald, in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Their companionship was marked by a deep appreciation and respect of one another, and together they shared 54 wonderful years before Tricia’s unexpected passing in 2021. Doug and Tricia were devoted parents to their two children, Christa and Ryan.

Doug began his career as a Golf Professional at the Arizona Country Club before joining Ahwatukee Country Club, where he spent nearly 18 years. He concluded his career as Head Golf Professional at Desert Forest Golf Club. His dedication and excellence were recognized when he was named Southwest PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 1981. He was the recipient of the Dr. Ed Updegraff Award from the Arizona Golf Association in 2009.

In 1997, Doug and Tricia traveled with friends from Arizona to Creede, Colorado, and fell in love with the beauty of the San Juan Mountains. They decided to build a cabin of their own and in the following years, Creede became a beloved second home. They spent their summers in Creede hiking, playing music, and enjoying the outdoors and each other’s company. Doug and Tricia, in their endless generosity, always enjoyed sharing that special place and hosting family and friends.

Doug loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Emily (daughter of Christa), and Bryce, Solange, Joseph, and Grace (children of Ryan and his wife, Cami). In time, Doug was blessed to welcome two great-grandchildren into the family - Henry (son of Emily and her wife, Alex) and Honour (son of Joseph and his wife, Morgan). Doug also deeply loved his dogs, and owned multiple labs during his life. He enjoyed walking with them in Creede and taking them on hikes around the Phoenix area.

Doug will be remembered by his kind and generous spirit. He appreciated the simple things in
