passed peacefully from this life early on the morning of December 28, 2015 at Wellsprings of Gilbert. He was born on the 22

nd

day of June, 1923 in Whiting, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father,

Michael Belok, his mother Helen Dobos Belok

, his sister, Helen Elenore Leese and his s

ister, Doris Emma Bruner.

He is survived by his niece Jevaye J. Bruner and ten step-grandchildren. He married Georgina Pilkington Horne on July 30, 1965 and sh

e had

two sons

from a previous marriage

, John William Horne and Robert Char

les Horne. Michael

graduated from

Chicago

Englewood High School in the class of 1941. He was drafted into the U.S. Army after the outbreak of WWII. Because of his excellent grade on the required intelligence test,

he was sent

to Harvard to learn the German language

. He ended up serving with the 16

th

Division. He remembered Sunday, May 6, 1945 vividly as they liberated Pilsen Czech Republic and they were greeted by cheering Czech people waving their f

lags (taken out of hiding)

as they

marched through

the town. Mike ended up being an interpreter for the 16

th

D

ivision

in Germany.

After the war, he went back to college and received his Doctor of Philosophy from USC in 1958. He was a Professor at Arizona State University in the College of Education until 1989. He co-authored several books, including

Approaches to Values

,

The Psychological Foundations of Education

and

The US and the Persian Gulf

.

He was published in Who’s Who in the West

in 1976 and 1982

. He enjoyed traveling

the world and did so extensively with Georgina.

Michael was a loving and devoted husband to Georgina. He was an excellent step-grandfather and enjoyed

is grandchildren immensely. Michael will be missed by the many people he touched as a professor, colle

e, friend, grandfather and uncle.

Graveside services will be held, Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 2:00

p.m. in the Mesa City
