E. Evans Farnsworth

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Evans, returned peacefully to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on August 9, 2026 at the age of 87.

Evans was born in Colonia Dublan, Mexico on March 1, 1939 to Alma Elone and Anna Mae Evans. He grew up there, the eldest of eleven siblings. He attended middle school and high school between both Mexico and the U.S, graduating from Juarez State Academy (Academia Juarez) in 1957 and was called by his uncle who was a mission president, shortly thereafter when he was 18 years old to serve an LDS mission to the Yucatan Peninsula (Southern Mexico) in the day when missions were 2 ½ years long. He moved back to the United States and was hired as a Chandler Police Dept. officer in 1961, making detective in 1968. Later, during the ten years he was employed by the Chandler Police Department, he enrolled at Arizona State University (about 1963-64) and subsequently graduated with a degree in history.

Evans later went on to attend ASU Law School, graduating third in his class in 1972. He practiced law for 50+ years, in Chandler, Mesa, and Willcox, Arizona. He, subsequently, became a city judge for the cities of Chandler and Avondale. He was a kind and compassionate judge always granting second chances.

Evans met his future sweetheart in 7th grade and loved to tell the story of when they met. They were the shortest in the class, a story he proudly told (and it always made her laugh). They were eventually married in 1960 in the Mesa Temple.

Evans and Terry welcomed seven children into the family and proudly raised them in Chandler, Arizona.

Evans’ favorite hobbies included reading mysteries, watching westerns and war movies, and, most of all, flying his private planes.

He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings such as teacher, Executive Secretary, Stake counselor and Stake President. Under his guidance and responsibility, the original Chandler Stake Center was built and then dedicated in 1982.

Evans is survived by his wife, Terry (Power), his children: Robyn, Kipp (Debbie), Kris (Laura), Mia (Rod), Kari, and Tara. He has 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Sherry, Trish, Marcia, Terrie and John.

He is preceded in death by his youngest son, Michael, his parents and some of his siblings.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 15 starting at 9:15 at the Galveston LDS chapel in Chandler. His funeral will be held directly following the viewing on Saturday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m., address: 1950 W. Galveston St., Chandler, Arizona.

Following the funeral, Evans will be laid to rest next to his son, Michael, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Phoenix, AZ.
