Edward Jack McDonnal Jr.

June 5, 1963 — May 5, 2026

Edward Jack McDonnal Jr., more commonly known as Chip McDonnal, 62, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, passed away on March 5, 2026. Though he battled serious illness in his final weeks, he is now at peace and free from suffering.

Chip was born on June 5, 1963, in Fremont, California, to Edward “Jack” McDonnal Sr. and Beverly Hudler McDonnal Velasquez. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Beverly Velasquez; his sister and brother-in-law, Pamella and Jason Butler; his nephew, Jacob and his wife, Aryn; and his great-niece and great-nephew, Gwyneth and Owen. He is also survived by his niece Ashley, her husband Matt and their children too. Chip had many stepchildren, each of whom he cherished and was proud to be part of their lives.

Chip grew up in the Niles Crest area of Fremont, California, where he loved riding his bike at Honda Hills and sailing on Lake Elizabeth.

Shortly after relocating to St. Augustine, Florida, he discovered a passion for natural food sales. He enjoyed working with the family business, Lanson Company, and later continued his career with Tree of Life/HEHE, UNFI, and Native Sun Natural Foods. Along the way, he also found a passion for over-the-road truck driving and worked as an owner/operator.

Chip was deeply sentimental, a loyal friend to many, and kind and generous to a fault. He loved those he cared about with intensity and will be remembered for the meaningful connections he made throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Currently, no service is planned in the San Tan Valley area. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ashe County, North Carolina. Friends and family are warmly invited to leave a comment, share a memory, or post photos to celebrate Chip’s life.

Chip’s spirit will live on in the stories, memories, and laughter he leaves behind.
