Valerie Ann Caliendo
, born October 20, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Olive Kilb, she was one of six children (Rose, Ronetta, Edward, William, and Denise) passed away peacefully on Sunday January 13, 2019 at the age of 79.
Valerie is survived by her husband of sixty years Felix “Phil” Caliendo, five sons Michael (Eddie), James (Zulma), Mark (Sarah), John (Kim), and Daniel (Ruth). Thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren as well as countless friends and family members.
Valerie was the most positive, encouraging, giving, and caring person any of us could have ever met. Her life was an inspiration to all as she suffered with arthritis and other health issues for the past decade and not once did it ever stop her from doing the things she enjoyed doing or going places she loved to go.
Valerie moved to Arizona in 1990 after retiring from the Glen Ellyn Police Department to join Phil who had moved to Arizona earlier to start a business. She worked for many years at the Basha’s Corporate office until finally retiring. Together they purchased their first Arizona home in Ahwatukee until finally residing in Sun Lakes a few years ago.
Valerie never wanted anyone to fuss over her and had a few simple requests upon her passing: Don’t be sad for her. Remember the fun times. Celebrate her life. She also requested a cremation so the visitation will be followed as she had asked.
Services will be held at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive, Chandler AZ 85249 from 11am-1pm Sunday January 20, 2019. Celebration of Life Services will be held afterwards at the home of John and Kim Caliendo, 1318 E. Secretariat Drive, Tempe AZ 85284.
