Gordon Indvik (Merle)

March 19, 1932 — March 25, 2024

Gordon Indvik (Merle) age 92, died on Monday March 25th, 2024 in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Gordy was born on March 19th, 1932 in Owatonna, Minnesota to Merle and Mabel Indvik. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1950 and entered into the Navy in 1951. In 1955 was honorably discharged. Gordy married Joan C. Carlton in 1953. Stationed in California, they spent their first years of married life in San Diego and San Francisco and went on to have two children; Michael Gordon and Trina Marie. After the military Gordy began working for Cargill where he spent 39 years as a grain merchant and merchant manager in Minneapolis and Fairmont, Minnesota, Des Moines, Iowa, Great Falls, Montana and Minot and Fargo, North Dakota.

Retiring from Cargill in 1992, Gordy was able to do many of the things he loved full time. He loved to travel. Driving to Arizona every winter and eventually relocating to Arizona full time. A trip to Norway brought him back to his roots at Indvic Bay. In celebration of their 50th anniversary, Gordy and Joan traveled to New Zealand where they rented a car and became vagabonds for a month, letting recommendations from locals guide their itinerary. Making lifelong friends as they traveled. Even being selected as honorary chief of the Maiori. Hawaii became one of their last big trips, where at the age of 85 Gordy snorkeled in the Pacific with his daughter as he was always up for the next adventure. He loved to play cards and achieved the high goal of Life Master in Bridge. He loved golf. He started the game on a sand course in Lansford, North Dakota as a way to have a family activity but it became a natural passion for him as he loved being outdoors, competing and socializing. In retirement, Gordy played and organized many rounds of golf in the Red River Valley Men’s Senior golf organization, even getting a hole in-one at the course in Detroit Lakes. He loved God and was a devoted Christian throughout his life. Always finding ways to become involved in his church through men’s clubs, choirs, and councils. Gordy particularly loved his once-a-week coffee group from Bethlehem Lutheran.

Gordy will be remembered as caring man who never met a stranger, never had a bad glass of wine and was always the optimist and a bit of perfectionist.

Gordy’s loving family includes: wife, Joan, Chandler, AZ; son, Michael (Becky) Indvik, daughter, Trina (Dwight) Larson; grandsons, Mark (Amelia) Indvik East Grand Forks, ND and Matt (Graz) Indvik, Watford City, North Dakota; great-grandchildren, Mykenna Indvik, Brayden Indvik, and Jaxson Indvik, East Grand Forks, ND; Isabella Indvik, Mikael Indvik, Watford City, ND; in-laws, Sandy and Jim Buchan, Jim and Georgia Carlton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Mabel and sister Joyce Lusk.
