H. Scudder Black Sr.

May 30, 1941 — March 24, 2026

H. Scudder Black, Sr. passed away after a long illness on March 24, 2026, just shy of his 85th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy (Pedersen) Black, sons Scudder Black, Jr, Douglas Black and his wife Lisa, and daughter Sandra Rendleman and her husband Jasson, his five grandchildren, Taylor Black, Hailey Black, Jacob (Jake) Black, Bryce Rendleman and Megan Rendleman.

Scudder was born in Oceanside, NY on May 30, 1941, to Janice (McAteer) and Alexander Black. He lived in Lynbrook, NY before moving to Oceanside, NY where he graduated from Oceanside High School. He attended Bucknell University and was a member of Theta Chi. After working for IBM in Garden City, NY, he graduated from Adelphi University with a degree in Business Management.

Scudder and his wife and their three children settled in Rockville Centre, NY where he had a successful Computer Consulting firm for many years. He enjoyed being a Scoutmaster leading his troop on many fascinating adventures. However, deep sea fishing on his beloved “Blackhawk” yacht brought him his greatest pleasure and rewards.

After retiring, Scudder and Nancy moved to Dobson Ranch in Mesa, AZ where he spent many years enjoying hiking , biking and social events with the Dobson Ranch Retirees Club.

A private family celebration of his life will take place in New York.
