James F. Grothusen, Jr.
Resident of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on April 12, 2019 of natural causes. Mr. Grothusen was born in Rock Island, Illinois on August 18, 1948. He achieved his Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, In 1971. Prior employment was at the City of Urbana,
Illinois, various engineering companies and as Director of Engineering and Development at the Quad City Airport in Moline, Illinois. Jim is survived by his children Amy Rose Grothusen, Houston, Texas, Alex James Grothusen of Chandler, Arizona, and daughter-in-law Samantha Ingram also of Chandler, AZ. He also leaves his sister MaryAnn Coroneos of Grand Rapids, MI.,
Mike Grothusen of Clinton, IA., Connie Shelsky of Tipton, IA, and Joseph Grothusen of Iowa, IA. He was predeceased by his parents, James Sr. and Rosemary Grothusen of Davenport, IA.
Jim’s life was filled with a love for music. He played guitar for many years and in college played in a band called “The XL’s” that was featured in a Dick Clark movie called “A Time to Sing”. Jim was passionate about motorsports and enthusiastically tried never to miss a race on television.
A small intimate family memorial will be held locally with future memorial service plans forthcoming in Davenport, IA. (Details to be announced).
