James Randall Vine

September 25, 1946 — July 12, 2025

James Randall Vine, 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona. Born on September 25, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan, Jim lived a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor that would guide him throughout his life. After completing his service, he turned his focus to education, a calling that would define much of his professional life.

For over three decades, Jim was a steadfast presence at Clio High School in Michigan. As a teacher, he inspired generations of students with his passion for learning and unwavering commitment to their growth.
Colleagues admired his calm demeanor and dry sense of humor, while students remembered him as someone who believed in them and encouraged them to reach their potential.

Outside the classroom, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep appreciation for classic cinema—particularly John Wayne films and old war movies— which spoke to his admiration for courage, resilience, and loyalty. These stories resonated with the values he held dear and often reflected the quiet heroism with which he lived his own life.

Jim's family was the heart of his world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lynn Vine; his daughters Susan Watkins (Jeremy Watkins) and Sarah Vine; and his cherished grandchildren: Alex Carnot, Emily Watkins, Matthew Watkins; Mackenzie Vine, Mason Vine, Joshua Vine; and Kaylee Rowland. Each of them carries forward pieces of Jim’s legacy, his wit, his steadiness, and the love he gave so freely.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ilah Vine; and his brother, Leon Vine.

Those who knew Jim will remember him not only for what he did but for who he was as a man whose quiet presence made others feel safe and loved. His memory will live on in the lives he touched through teaching, service, friendship, and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a veterans’ organization of your choice, in memory of Jim’s service and enduring patriotism.
