Jean Bosio

May 8, 1936 — Aug 30, 2026

Jean (Mantela) Bosio passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, in Chandler, AZ, with her family at her side. Born on May 8, 1936, in Negaunee, Michigan, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Arne and Lempi (Iskola) Mantela.

Jean cherished her memorable childhood, especially the time she spent with her grandparents. She enjoyed fishing with her grandfather, John Iskola, at their cabin, or “camp,” on the Upper Peninsula’s Dead River Basin and loved visiting with Grandpa Gust (Mantela) and her beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins. She learned Finnish from her grandparents, which was especially useful for the several trips she made to Finland over the years to visit relatives.

A graduate of Negaunee High School, Jean married John Bosio in Ishpeming, Michigan, on October 6, 1956. The newlyweds resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they raised their family.

In Green Bay, Jean enjoyed golf, and swimming, which she continued daily after she and John retired to Arizona. As a Packers fan, she often attended games at Lambeau Field and fondly recalled her frigid experience at the famous 1967 NFL Championship “Ice Bowl.” Jean loved corresponding with friends and family through beautifully penned letters and cards. Her true passion, however, was her crafting hobby - something she continued throughout her life. She found joy in creating and sharing her crafts with her family and friends.

Jean loved her family dearly. Sun Lakes was a gathering place for all of her grandchildren. She served many favorite meals, hosted Easter Egg hunts, and enjoyed playing board games. But it was her faith, kindness, warm heart, and gentle spirit that defined her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend - always wanting to brighten someone's day. She was Finnish “SISU” strong - quietly courageous while never wanting to burden others.

Jean is survived by John, her husband of 70 years; four children, Pamela (James) Baileys, Chandler, AZ; Jeff (Diane) Bosio, Highlands Ranch, CO; Glenn (Kitty) Bosio, Marietta, GA; and Marcia (Andrew) Flynn, Chandler, AZ. She is also missed by her eight adoring grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Grateful for the love and support she received from the doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic, Jean also greatly appreciated the caring support of the staff at the Village at Ocotillo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neighbors Who Care (Sun Lakes, AZ) or Hospice of the West.
