He worked for Thiokol as a Quality Assurance Representative for 30 years on the Space Shuttle and Minuteman Missile Programs, after which retiring to Arizona. He was rockhound and loved going camping on the weekends. He left behind a wife of 53 years, Diane Courtney. He had five children, Keli (Edwin) Figueroa, Kyle Courtney (deceased), Therese Courtney, Trent Courtney and Shaun (Cara) Courtney. He had 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. One sister, Nedra Bialek and 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
