Karen Burge

Karen Burge passed away on March 6, 2026 at the age of 75. She was born on January 26, 1951, in Gary, Indiana and lived a life defined by compassion, humor, and an unwavering devotion to the people and animals she loved.

Karen graduated from Indiana University with a Master’s degree in Education. She later began a new chapter in Tempe, Arizona, where she lived for forty-two years and built a life filled with family, friendships, and community.

On any given day, you could find Karen at the dog park, rescuing animals in need, making sure the birds got their bread, sharing meals with loved ones, or enjoying her daily dose of Judge Judy, all while cracking a joke that left everyone around her smiling.

Karen lived life on her own terms. She was fiercely selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own. Throughout her life, she adopted, rescued, taught, and sacrificed, asking for very little in return. What she wanted most was simple: to give love and support to her family and friends.

As a single mother raising an only child on a teacher’s salary, Karen worked tirelessly and made countless sacrifices to provide the best life she could for her daughter. Her strength, determination, and unconditional love shaped not only the life of the child she raised, but the family that grew from it.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Karen’s life was the close bond she shared with her son-in-law, whom she loved dearly. She affectionately referred to him and her daughter as “Dollies,” and from that nickname she became lovingly known as “Dollie Mama.”

To her child, Karen was more than a mother. She was a hero, a guide, and a best friend from the very day their adoption story began. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the memories, laughter, and lives of those who knew her. Karen’s legacy is one of genuine kindness, relentless humor, and a heart big enough to care for anyone, or any animal, that crossed her path.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Chandler, Arizona. Additional details will be shared at a later time.
