On Wednesday May 31st, Katherine Sloane Holmberg, loving daughter, sister, aunt & friend died suddenly at the age of 41.

Kate was born Feb 28, 1982 to David and Caroline Sloane in Bettendorf IA. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 2004 while enjoying swimming & cross country.

She attended Cottey College & Hillsdale College and received a BA in Elementary Education. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority at Hillsdale College. She received her Master’s in Elementary Education at Northern Arizona University.

She was a passionate teacher and has taught multiple grade levels ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade. She did her student teaching in Bettendorf, IA & London England. She taught at Imagine Schools of East Mesa for 6 years, then at Stars & Stripes American Kindergarten in Shanghai China for 2 years, Coronado Elementary in Higley for 6 years, & most recently at Patterson Elementary teaching 3rd grade. She touched many lives at these schools and her students and fellow teachers adored her. She was nominated teacher of the year in 2010 & 2011 at Imagine Schools in East Mesa.

She started a Chapter of Girls on the Run in 2009 while at Imagine Schools introducing girls to having a positive self-image and staying healthy. She was a role model for the girls that participated in this program and had a profound impact on them. She coached cross country, track & field, and volley ball. She loved being outdoors and all things running and hiking.

Kate is loved by many and made meaningful lasting relationships throughout her life. The value she added to everyone’s life was unmatched. Those who were lucky enough to call her friend cherished every moment with her.

Kate was passionate about traveling and had visited 6 continents. Her dream was to make it to the 7th- Antarctica. She frequently visited England & Scotland to spend time with her beloved extended family.

In 2022 Kate married the love of her life, and they were expecting their first child. Kate was so excited to meet her daughter, Molly Blake. She loved being pregnant and was preparing each and every day to be the best mother to Molly Blake.

She leaves behind her parents David Sloane (Barbara Sloane), Caroline Sloane (John Greer), grandmother Susan Blake, siblings Peter Sloane (Alyssa Sloane), Alice Sloane-Augustine (Matthew Augustine), Jennifer Chapman (Ryan Chapman), Melissa Greer, nieces nephews Sophia & Charlotte Sloane-Augustine, Lincoln, Olivia, & Luke Chapman, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by grandfather Peter Blake & grandparents Ted & Alice Sloane.

Kate lived life to the fullest and to know her was to love her. She was blessed with so many people that deeply loved and cared for her.

A vigil will be held downtown Gilbert by the Watertower at 7:15 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

A Visitation will be held at Whitney & Murphy Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive Chandler, AZ 85225 at 4pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. A Memorial Service will follow at 5pm.
