It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Kathleen Ann McCarthy, who left us on July 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with a serious illness. Born on August 29, 1944, in Lead, South Dakota, Kathleen was a beacon of love, strength, and kindness to all who knew her.
Kathleen was the beloved daughter of Howard and Inez Pape, and she was one of seven children—two brothers and four sisters—who shared her childhood and lifelong bonds. Her father, Howard, was a talented minor league baseball player who later served in WWII as a proud member of the Army before dedicating his life to working for the U.S. Post Office. Her mother, Inez, was a devoted homemaker and a waitress at “The Blue Moon” Café, always welcoming everyone with warmth and a smile.
Throughout her life, Kathie exemplified independence, entrepreneurship, and generosity. She loved to cook and was passionate about being her own boss, founding and running several local businesses, including an Auto Body Repair Shop, a HVAC Service Company, a Sandwich Shop, and most cherished of all, a catering company. Her infectious smile and kind words touched everyone she met, and her giving nature was evident in everything she did—often going above and beyond to help others.
Kathleen leaves behind a large and loving family, including her four children, four stepchildren, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Kathie will be dearly missed, but her spirit and kindness will forever remain a guiding light in our lives.
A Viewing will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Whitney & Murphy Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Drive, Chandler, AZ 85225 and a Celebration of Life will follow (to be announced at the time of service). Interment to be announced at a later date.
