Keith Lee Shumway

Sep 9, 1934 — Oct 27, 2026

Keith Lee Shumway, 92, passed away on October 27, 2026, surrounded by his children and loved ones. Keith was born to Jesse and Leoma Shumway on September 9, 1934, in Chandler, Arizona, where he was raised. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved sharing his faith with others.

Keith was the oldest of nine children. He spent much of his childhood working on the family farm and dairy in Chandler, Arizona. One of his fond memories from those early years was riding his horse to school when he was in elementary school.

He served a mission in the Northern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was later drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years during the Berlin Crisis in Germany. Keith married Nadine “Jackie” Jackson, and together they raised their six children in Chandler, Arizona.

Keith had a lifelong love of music. He played in a band during his high school years and continued pursuing his passion for music throughout his adult life. He formed his own band, The Country Men. He loved singing and playing music and sharing that love with others.

Keith also had a great love for animals and enjoyed raising a variety of them over the years, including chickens, turkeys, peacocks, geese, pigs, sheep, goats, and even large tortoises. His grandchildren especially loved visiting Papa’s farm and getting to see all the animals.

Keith will always be remembered for his strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and his love for sharing that testimony with members of his congregation. Throughout his life, he blessed the lives of many through his service, including serving as a Group Leader at Randolph State Home for the Handicapped, as a Bishop’s Storehouse missionary, and as Branch President of the San Tan Branch.

Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie; his sister, Marlene Shumway; his brothers, Harvey Shumway and Dale Shumway; and his granddaughter, Jaclyn Van Leuven.

He is survived by his sons, Duane (Kathryn) Shumway and Curt (Monica) Shumway; his daughters, Sherry (Brian) Van Leuven, Julie (Scott) Herrell, Bonnie (George) Page, and Jenny (Teddy) Rushton; his brothers, David Shumway and Bill Shumway; and his sisters, Jean Beutler, Jessie Essley, and Clara Barnett. He also leaves behind 36 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and several more on the way.
