Gilbert, AZ – Kim Allen Merritt, 68, passed away Wednesday, June 9th 2021. Kim was born on May 18th, 1953, in Indianapolis, IN. Kim lived on the Westside of Indianapolis, IN until 1996 when he moved to Gilbert, AZ.
He graduated from Speedway High School in 1972 where he was involved in many sports. Kim’s claim to fame was always the fact that he still held the record for the 100 yard dash, as it was changed to meters the next year.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years , Susan Merritt, daughter Lisa Leach (Mike) of Gilbert, AZ , son Bryan Merritt of Indianapolis, IN., granddaughters Mackenzie Leach and Sydney Merritt, his brother Stanley Merritt (Rhonda), former wife Sandy Poremba (Tom), aunts Jean Kessler and Shirley Johnson, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Stanley Merritt, mother JoAnn Merritt Hill, brothers Brent Merritt and Gary Merritt (Sophie) and sister Debra Collins (Steve).
A celebration in Kim’s honor will be held at La Ristra New Mexican Kitchen 140 N. Arizona Ave Chandler, AZ. 85225 from 2pm – 5pm on Saturday, June 26th. We ask that you be there by 3pm for a special toast.
A celebration will also be held in Indianapolis at a later date.
Kim was a larger than life man who lived life to the fullest. To say we are devastated by his loss is a huge understatement. We lost a truly special man, never having met anyone he didn’t like.
