Othal Laverne Henry, (you all knew her as Laverne) age 84 of Chandler, AZ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on January 21, 2026, at Pennington Gardens assisted care in Chandler, AZ after a brief illness.
She was born February 3, 1941, in Truth or Consequences, NM, a daughter of the late Jesse Williard Harris and Francis Caldonia Harris.
On July 2, 1960, she was married to the love of her life, Benny Lawrence Henry in Truth or Consequences, NM after a short romance and engagement, that started with a blind date on a telephone call and then a first real date by going dancing. Laverne and Benny lived in multiple places in west Texas and New Mexico before settling in El Paso, Texas. Along the way, Laverne had two sons, Steve and Wayne Henry. The family lived in El Paso until June of 1975 where Benny was transferred to Phoenix, AZ. Laverne quickly found a job and began her career as a para-legal after working her way up from being a receptionist at the Brown and Bain law firm in Phoenix, AZ.
Her sense of loyalty, work ethic, sense of humor and most of all her love of Jesus Christ defined her and was always on display and widely known and appreciated by those who knew her.
Laverne loved to go camping and fishing as she loved the outdoors and found joy in her many hobbies including cooking, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Laverne also loved being a grandmother and a great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Benny Henry. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ronny Harris and Cindy, Kenny Harris and his wife Betty.
