Marc Andrew Duerk, 43, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away on August 14, 2026.
Marc was born on March 10, 1983, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Susan. He was a deeply loved son and brother.
Marc served in the Army National Guard and later earned his Masters in Public Administration from Bowling Green State University. His military service and education were important accomplishments in his life and reflected his commitment to learning, service, and helping others.
Marc had a lifelong love of the outdoors and was happiest surrounded by nature. He loved fishing, camping, hiking, and spending time in the mountains, particularly the beautiful landscapes of Pennsylvania and Northern California. Marc also loved riding his off-road motorcycle and the freedom and adventure that came with exploring new places.
Marc was friendly, kindhearted, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed helping neighbors with whatever needed to be done, whether it was trimming bushes, taking care of odd jobs, or simply pitching in when someone could use the help. His kindness extended beyond the people he knew – if Marc saw a stranger who needed help, he was often the kind of person who would stop and lend a hand.
Marc also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Casey, who was his faithful companion for nearly 16 years. The two shared a very special bond, and Casey was an important and much-loved part of Marc’s life until Casey’s passing in October 2024.
Marc’s life took him to many different places, and he carried his love of nature and adventure with him wherever he went. Those who loved him will remember his adventurous spirit, his love of the outdoors, and simply the person he was.
Marc was preceded in death by his father, John. He is survived by his mother, Susan; his brother, John; and his sister, Elizabeth.
Marc will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the experiences he shared, the places he loved, the kindness he showed others, and the countless memories those closest to him will carry forward.
His family takes comfort in their faith and in knowing that he is now in God’s loving care.
Marc will always be remembered with love and will never be forgotten.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3450 West Ray Road, Chandler, Arizona 85226.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marc’s memory to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Chandler.
