Michael "Sweet Mike" Finelli Jr.
Michael Anthony Finelli Jr., 64, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on May 20, 2026. Known affectionately to his colleagues and friends as "Sweet Mike," his bubbling personality, kind heart, and eager willingness to help anyone brought immense joy to everyone who knew him.
Michael was born on September 24, 1961, to Michael Finelli Sr. and Maria Finelli in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Solon High School, he moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University. Upon graduation, Michael launched his career in a field he truly loved—the world of sports. He worked in the Public Relations and Communications department for the NFL’s Phoenix Cardinals, where he proudly traveled with the team to road games. Michael later brought his talents to Family Heritage Insurance where he received numerous awards and was dedicated to helping people protect themselves and their families during times of illness.
At a very young age of 16, Michael would faithfully attend Thursday Night Raps where he accepted Jesus as his personal savior and boldly shared his faith with his family and others. Deeply passionate about his Christian faith, Michael was an instrumental part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Solon High School. Most recently he participated in weekly Bible study groups and was active in his local church. Michael also loved his Valley Christian Academy family in Chandler Arizona, where he was a staple at varsity home football games, leading the Valley community as the “Master Griller”.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Anthony Finelli Sr., and his baby brother, Leonard. He is survived by his beloved mother, Maria Finelli; his brothers, Frank Finelli and his wife Nancy; Angelo Finelli and his wife Laureann; and sister Rosaria Bonsignore and her husband Carl. He also leaves behind his 12 cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom enjoyed many summer weekends together having a blast with Uncle Mike, boating, tubing and skiing at Lake Mohawk.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Gospel House Church, located at 14707 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, Ohio 44146.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Valley Christian Schools. Sweet Mike loved serving the VCS community and VCS loved him. He connected with so many. All donations will boost the financial aid initiative of the school to help families with financial need.
