Norece “Shorty” Hatch
passed peacefully on December 27, 2022, at his home at age 75. Norece was a father of nine children, a grandfather of 43, and a great-grandfather to 14. He was a long-time Gilbert resident, where he met and married Nivla Lamoreaux. Norece owned and operated a successful contracting business for over forty years before his retirement in 2011.
Among other things, Norece served as a member of the Governing School Board in support of the Gilbert Public School District. He also held many positions within his Church and frequently donated his time, talents, and resources to anyone in need. He loved spending time with his family and engaging in outdoor activities, especially at Lake Powell and other reservoirs.
Norece was married 43 years to his late wife Nivla Lamoreaux Hatch, mother to all nine of his children, who passed away in 2012. In 2016 was remarried to Mary Rogers Hatch.
Norece Hatch was born and raised in Northern Arizona and completed his college education at Northern Arizona University. Norece served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1968-69 in the Central America Mission. He later served with his late wife Nivla, in the Cordoba Argentina mission, where she passed suddenly in 2012. Norece and his second wife, Mary, also served a Mission for the Church in Madrid, Spain, as temple workers for the Church.
To his friends, he was known as “Shorty” and was often found in the service of family or others. His warm smile and friendly disposition created many lifelong friendships and associations. Above all, however, Norece was a caring husband, dedicated father, world-class grandpa, and friend to many. His legacy of service is the hallmark of his life’s work. Norece is survived by his second wife, Mary, and his nine children, Shamaine Wright (Mike), Titia Mann, Cody (Melanie), Yana Reidhead (Keevin), Cozette Fox (Sean), Tima Hird (Nick), Toah, Taffy Sherwood (DJ), and Koay (Rianne). His siblings are Darnell Brown (Tom), Ray (deceased), Don (Kay), Ross (Karen), Gwynn, Lynn Romney (Jess).
Services are on January 7, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Power Ranch Stake Center located at 4170 South Ranch Road, Gilbert, Arizona. There will be a viewing held from 8:00-9:00 AM at the same location, followed by a memorial service at 9:30AM. He will be interred at the cemetery in Woodruff, Arizona.
