Norman Wilbert Carl

Our deeply loved father & grandfather,  Norman Wilbert Carl was called to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on May 22, 2021.

Norman, the son of Leroy & Loretta Carl, was born on July 15, 1924 in Wheeling West Virginia.  The family moved to Northern Ohio & Norman graduated from North High School in Akron, residing there & in Barberton.

Norman was a army veteran serving in World War II.  In Central Europe he served as a telephone & telegraph Lineman. He received several theater ribbons & a Victory Medal Bronze Star.  After his military discharge he attended Kent State University.

Norman met the love of his life, Donna (Donavon Momchilov), who was working at the theater next to his father Leroys Karmel Korn store in Barberton, Ohio.   He always said he knew from the moment he helped her out of the snow that November day in 1946 she was the one. They married 6 months later, May 1947.  The two enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Their love produced 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and one great grandson. A true Greatest Generation Love Story.

Working for a Major Tire Company in Ohio, Norman was transferred many times throughout the U.S. until settling in Hacienda Heights, Ca. in 1963. After a successful career he & Donna retired in Sun Lakes in 1994.  He cared for Donna for 7 years until her passing in 2006.  He always stated it was the greatest honor of his life to care for her.  Norman enjoyed caring for his yard & citrus trees, he proudly shared with all vistors.  He kept busy writing his autobiography, sketching, painting.  You could find drawings & sketches on every tiny little paper in his home, along with Candy Dishes stashed full of candy.  He was a many of many outfits, no matter what he wore he always looked dapper.  Norman enjoyed dancing the soft shoe, waltzing with his bride & in later years his imginary partner, he loved music & dancing.  As a proud American Veteran, Norman often spoke at Elementary Schools, sharing his war experiences.  Charitable organizations were important to him, he always said the Lord provided the money & he felt it was important to give.  His home was loaded with all the free trinkets the organizations would give him for thanks & he kept every single thing!

His deep Christian faith, as evidenced by marked up Bibles with studies can be found all over his home.  He had 2 sayings that most remember.  One “Keep Cool” referring to the heat in Arizona months & “Lord give me your Peace”. The later he said every night before bed for sleep.  On May 22, 2021 the Lord gave him his final peace, his joy with Jesus, his Donna & all he loved welcomed him with open arms.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents Leroy & Loretta, wife Donna, daughter Janis, brother Marvin, granddaughter Stacy & son in law Bud.  He is survived by his daughter Sharlynn Nagel, son Brian Carl, sister Lynnae Seeley.  Daughter in law, Valerie & her daughter Mandy.  His grandchildren Ashlee (Nagel) Mandell & her husband Jeff, Austin, Caitlin Carl  & great grandson Jackson Mandell.

Graveside services, honor military guard & internment being held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, Chandler, Az.   Saturday May 29th.
