Raymond Joseph Deyo, Jr. of Chandler, Arizona passed away peacefully after a short illness, at Chandler Regional Medical Center, on February 14, 2021.  Ray was born January 6, 1948 in Yonkers, New York, the son of Raymond Joseph Deyo, Sr. and Anne Catherine Taylor.  He was a graduate of Yorktown High School, Class of 1967, in Yorktown Heights, NY.  In 1973 in Scottsdale Arizona, Ray married Kathleen Marie Shehan, his sweetheart, best friend and partner in countless adventures over the 45 years they shared together. They had a union that was based on mutual love and support. Kathy passed away in August 2018.

In 1968 Ray enlisted in the United States Army, and did two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He proudly served as crew chief, on medical evacuation helicopters, known by their radio call sign as “Dust Off.”  Many lives were saved by the crews of these helicopters who moved the wounded quickly from battlefield to field hospitals. His bravery was recognized with many awards including: six Air Medals, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Bronze Star with V device, for valor in battle, the Silver Star, and others.  In 1972, he moved to Arizona, where in 1973 he and Kathy began their life together.

He retired from the military in 1995 having attained the rank of Staff Sargent, and they returned to Arizona.  Ray then spent several years with The Arizona Lottery, retiring from there as Southwest Regional Account Manager.  Ray and Kathy loved improving their home and gardening.  They were surrounded by their beautiful flowers and harvested a bounty of vegetables. Their homes were truly havens.
