Robert Franklin Laney
passed away in Gilbert, AZ on March 26th 2018. He is best known to all as Grandpa Laney. He graduated from Albuquerque High and College of St. Joseph. He served in the United States Army as a member of the Honor Guard and was stationed in Korea. Grandpa worked at various Department of Army facilities including Letterkenny Army Depot (Chambersburg PA) as a Computer Systems Analyst and in Security, retiring in 1989. After retiring he and Patty followed his son and family to Gilbert AZ.
He was a kind and gentle soul. Above all he loved his fellow man. He was a friend to everyone and was quick to offer help to those in need. Somehow he always knew the right thing to do. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in the Chambersburg ward and the Gilbert ward. He was born in High Rolls NM on May 21st 1934 to Louis Henry Laney and Carrie Adair. He married the love of his life Patricia (Phelan) Laney July 1959 in Albuquerque NM and was sealed to her and his children in the Washington D.C. temple. He is survived by his children Robert and Shaunna (Frey) Laney and Carey Laney both in of Gilbert AZ. Grandchildren include Robert and Sheree (Stapley) Laney, Matthew and Trisha (Montgomery) Laney, Sean and Laura (Cortez) Laney, Kara (Laney) and Alex Annand and Rachel Laney. Great grandchildren are Aubree Laney, Graham Laney, Eli Laney, Daniel Laney, Adeline Laney and Amara Annand (with 2 more on the way).
He is survived by a sister Dorothy (Laney) Troy of Tucson, AZ and was preceded in death by siblings – Louis Alma Laney, William Charles Laney, Thomas Ferril Laney and Jody (Laney) Hatcher. He will be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday April 7th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1150 W. Elliot Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85233. Viewing will be 9:00am to 10:30am and funeral 11:00am.
