Rodney William Sowers passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Ogden, Utah, on August 17, 1945, he was the son of Ivon Lewis Sowers and Kathryn Erma Sowers.
Rodney graduated from Ogden High School in 1963 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Utah. Following college, he proudly served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Ogden and continued working at Country Club Drug, where he had started in high school under the mentorship of his neighbor and friend, Emory Herndon. In 1977, Rodney purchased the business and served the community with dedication until selling it to Kmart. He continued his career in pharmacy for many years, eventually relocating to Phoenix, Arizona.
Rodney had a deep love for the outdoors and developed a passion for snowmobiling. What began as casual rides with family and friends grew into long-distance cross-country riding and eventually racing. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, and skiing—especially in Jackson Hole and Yellowstone—creating many cherished memories in these special places. A classic car enthusiast, Rodney found joy in attending car shows throughout the year, appreciating the craftsmanship and nostalgia of timeless vehicles.
Rodney was the father of three sons. He was first married to Sharon Hunter, with whom he had two sons, Derek and Brett. He later married Valerie Lott, and together they welcomed their son, Logan.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his sons: Derek (Bobbie) of Roy, Utah; Brett (Nikki) of West Haven, Utah; Logan (Allison) of Phoenix, Arizona; and step-sons Chris (Jolene) of Maricopa, Arizona, and Andrew (Nicole) of Springfield, Ohio. Rodney also leaves behind nine grandchildren and is fondly remembered by his father-in-law, Val Lott of Hooper, Utah; sister-in-law, Linda Lott of Tempe, Arizona; and brother-in-law, Darin Lott of Hooper, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivon and Kathryn Sowers; his mother-in-law, Kaylene Peterson; and his brother-in-law, Kevin Lott.
The family is deeply grateful to Canyon Hospice for their kindness, compassion, and dedicated care.
