Rory Hopkins 1938-2017

Rosemary (Roush) Hopkins (79) of Chandler, Arizona passed away suddenly on November 14, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Freda Roush. Rosemary is survived by her daughters Donna Hopkins of Missouri City, TX and Stacey Scanio, son in law, Anthony, and her grandchildren Nico, Gabrielle, Luca, and Francesca Scanio all of San Tan Valley, AZ; her brother James Roush of Elmira, NY; nephew James Roush (Stella) and grand-nieces Sarah and Jennifer Roush of Corning, New York. Rosemary was proud of her Roush heritage and her home town of Buffalo, NY. She was born there on May 2, 1938, graduated from Kensington High School, and got a bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State Teachers College (now SUNY College at Buffalo). She later obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. After she married, she lived in Olean and Allegheny NY, in Wethersfield and Enfield CT, and Oswego IL. She continued to maintain friendships with the people she knew in all these places. She was active in the church choir and volunteer efforts at the Calvary Presbyterian Church (Enfield CT) and Oswego Presbyterian Church (IL) where she was also a Deacon. She taught at several elementary schools, including a transitional first grade program at Eastview Elementary (Oswego). In Oswego she was active in several clubs -gardening, craft, bowling, and bridge. She even worked for several years as a co-manager at The Greeting Place (a Hallmark store in downtown Oswego), where she enjoyed interacting with people celebrating all the milestones of their lives. She fell in love with Arizona while on vacation, and moved to Chandler as soon as she retired. She was active with her Solera community. She enjoyed playing bridge, bunko, dominoes, and many different card games in both official clubs and casually with friends and family. She also became a member of the Risen Savior Lutheran Church. Rosemary was an avid volunteer. She participated in the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program every year for over 25 years. She made blankets for Project Linus, delivered for Meals on Wheels, and made phone calls for American Red Cross Blood Drives.

A memorial gathering will be held in Solera on Sunday, December 3rd from 1:00-3:00.
