Sandra Jean Schuff Bear

was born on the 29

th

of April, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio. She passed away on the 12

th

of June, 2022 surrounded by her husband of 65 years and their children. Her parents were Albert Beynon Schuff and Ruth Tuttle Mateer.  She was the youngest of four children. She is survived by her husband John and their five children along with their spouses and her brother Dave Schuff, his wife Nancy, sisters in law, Ginger Schuff, and Betty Batzli. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1946 when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Phoenix North High School in 1955 and also attended Arizona State University for two years. Sandra met John and instantly fell in love with him. They were married on April 19, 1957 and became the parents of five children: Bonnie Bear Reed (Brian), Betty Bear Brown (Charlie), Barbara Bear Stowell (Brent), David Bear (Marva Lynn Andersen), Belinda Bear Ashcroft (Russell).  Their large posterity consists of 33 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren with two great-great grandchildren on the way.

Sandra enjoyed yard work and planting flowers. She was passionate about beautiful music, art and developed the talent of oil painting. For decades, she loved to play softball and could strike out youth half her age. She was an excellent cook and perfected the art of homemaking. Sandra and John’s home was open to youth who needed a place to live. Aysegul Ozerdem was a foreign exchange student who came to live with the family in the 1978. Aysegul and her husband Boris, as well as their children have been an active part of the family ever since then.

Sandra was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is remembered by countless people for the meals and selfless service rendered during times of need. Her church service included working in the women’s service organization known as Relief Society.

She was President of this group twice and served for many years. She taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to the children in the Primary Organization, as well as with the teenagers with the Young Women. She was a faithful ministering sister her entire life. She loved working in the Mesa Temple with her husband John. John and Sandra served two missions for the church together. In life, she made her husband, home and family her main priority and lived her life centered and focused on her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was the epitome of womanhood.

A visitation will be held Friday, June 17,2022 from 6-8pm at Bueler Mortuary 14 W. Hulet Dr. Chandler, Az 85225. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:00am with a visitation 1 hour prior. The LDS Stake Center 1005 N. Voyager Dr.  Gilbert, Az 85234.
