Susan Marie Derr
went to “be with the Lord” on October 15th, 2022, while residing at Sunrise of Chandler Senior Living. She was 98 years old!
Susan loved God, country and family; most of all she loved God. She was a devout Christian and church attendee all her life and until the last few years, she attended Arizona Community Church.
A member of the “Greatest Generation”, she married William M Derr on December 11, 1942. A few weeks later he was sent overseas to serve in Africa and Italy during WWII. He was there for three years with the US Army Air Corp. During this separation Susan aided the war effort by installing the hydraulic systems in P38 airplanes for the Navy.
While raising their family after the war, Susan was employed as a Food Service Manager for Ewing New Jersey School District. She “loved the job” because she “loved seeing the children every day”.
Susan is survived by her son, Ronald Derr, and her daughter, Sharon Stewart, both of Phoenix, AZ. as well their spouses Fostene Derr and James Stewart respectively plus five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren residing around the country.
Susan loved many and was loved by many!
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 3rd at 10am at Sunrise of Chandler. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St Jude.
