Susan Howe Morales

March 7, 1939 — September 20, 2025

Susan Howe Morales, adored sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt & friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Susan Dennett Howe was born March 7, 1939 in Altrincham, UK. At the time of Susan's birth, her parents, Dennett Farwell Howe, Esther (Hankinson) Howe, and Susan's older brother William (Bill) lived in the UK while Dennett worked with the international expansion of his employer, Procter & Gamble. Esther brought Bill and Susan home to the USA in September of 1939; Dennett rejoined his family in April of 1940. Susan grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She spent several summers at camps in New England, progressing from camper to counselor-in-training, to counselor and swimming instructor. She attended schools in Ohio, Massachusetts (Mary A. Burnham School, Northampton, Class of 1958), and Vermont (Vermont College, Montpelier, Class of 1960, where Sue led the women's varsity basketball team and participated in intramural sports) before moving west to study Physical Education at the University of Arizona.

Susan met her future husband Frank Moreno Morales while they were students at the University of Arizona, and they married in Tucson in August of 1963. They had two children, Gloria and Michael. Sue and her family cherished their neighborhood, and neighbors quickly became forever friends. Sue, already an accomplished knitter, expanded her skills in fabric arts to include sewing, macrame, and embroidery, making clothes for her family and creating canvases with crewel embroidery that she proudly displayed all around her home. The Morales Family moved from Tucson to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977, gaining more forever friends. In 1982 the family moved from Las Vegas to Tempe, Arizona. Sue and Frank became fans of Arizona State athletics, especially the Women's Basketball program, and were befriended by coaches, staff, and players.

Susan is survived by her husband Frank, daughter Gloria Scheeland and son-in-law Frank Scheeland, son Michael Morales, and grandchildren Frank Morales, Erin Morales, Jenna Scheeland, Tanya Khiaw, Rodney Pampel and great-grandson Gabe Urbaez. Susan is also survived by her sister Nancy Fitzpatrick, brothers Tim Kendall (Christine Thomson) and Jon Howe (Jeri Howe), brother-in-law Al Guzman, sister-in-law Lis Howe and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her brothers Bill Howe and Sandy Howe, daughter-in-law Malena Morales, sisters-in-law Clara Howe and Margie Guzman, and brother-in-law Phil Fitzpatrick.

Susan never wanted any sort of spotlight on her, nor accolades given to her, no matter how deserving she was of both. She will always be remembered for the love she continually, quietly poured into her family.

A Memorial Service is being planned for spring 2026.
