passed away on January 10, 2023.
Sylvia was a native Arizonan, born in Phoenix to Ernesto and Violonda Duarte Lopez on October 19,1948.
She graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S and M.S. in Communications and taught Communications courses there.
Sylvia worked for Rio Salado College, Scottsdale Community College, Phoenix College, and served Maricopa Community College District in a variety of roles for 36 years including Dean of Student Enrollment Services and Associate Vice Chancellor. She started in MCD when there were only 4 colleges, there are now 10!
She was a dog lover and especially cherished boating with her husband Bob and their dogs on Lake Powell and other beautiful spots around Arizona.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Bob, and son Dennis Hantla.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Hantla, Shawn Hantla Durand, and Becky Hantla Holt, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Sylvia Hantla Memorial Scholarship Fund for deserving Rio Salado College students at,
