Theresa Diaz McHaney

d. April 26, 2024

Our cherished mother, Theresa Diaz McHaney, sadly passed away on April 26th at age 96. She was born in San Antonio Texas to Mariana and Benito Diaz. She graduated from San Fernando Cathedral School where she was awarded an academic scholarship to Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio Texas. In December 1950, Theresa married Melvin McHaney and shortly thereafter moved with her husband to Queen Creek, Arizona.

Theresa McHaney continued her education at Arizona State University and her career included working as a teacher, a court translator and lastly, as a hospital switchboard operator. She pursued an education and career over a span of several years all while growing a family and caring for her children. She was an influential mother and a great source of comfort. Theresa always put the well-being of her children above all else.

Theresa also had a strong passion for God and counted her family as a blessing from above. Theresa is preceded in death by her husband Melvin McHaney and her son Melvin Jr., known as Tuney. She is survived by her children, John McHaney, Bill McHaney, MaryAnn (Arturo) Buelna and Theresa McHaney Evans; grandchildren, Leonard, Jacob (Crissy), Arturo Jr. (Susie), Triana (Adolfo), Catrina, Estreia, Shawntih, Joshua (Natalie), Justin, Shayna and Miles; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren. Theresa also loved and treasured all her nieces and nephews in Texas often referring to them as her "gente" or, her people.

Theresa leaves a trail of beautiful memories and she will be missed tremendously. Rest in Peace our precious Mom,Tia and Nana. Via con Dios.
