Timothy "Tim" Ethington

Timothy “Tim” Ethington, 62, of Chandler, AZ passed away on April 20, 2026. Tim was born on May 17, 1963 to Reed and Kathryn Ethington of Chandler where he spent the majority of his life. Tim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Tim grew up in Chandler and graduated from Chandler High School in 1981. After graduating he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Helsinki, Finland before returning home and attending Arizona State University. On June 6, 1986 he married Leslie Maloy in the Mesa temple. After spending several years during and following college working in rebar, earning his pilot’s license, and handling airline baggage, Tim began his career at Intel where he built an impactful legacy. Tim’s work took him and most of his family to China for 2 years, where they were able to share a number of unique experiences. After returning to Arizona, he saw the children through school and settled into his life as an empty-nester.

Tim’s family will remember him as an avid Rook and Wizard player, a computer builder, and an extraordinary bargain hunter, constantly searching for a great deal on something, anything. He loved airplanes, guns, eating at Elmer's Tacos, and laughing with friends and family.

Tim had a deep love of the Savior and of his Gospel. He drew comfort from his faith at the passing of his mother and father and his family now shares that comfort. Tim served in his local congregation as a Scout leader and shared his love of scouting that came from his father and brothers who were all active Scouters.

In the last years of his life Tim’s greatest satisfaction was being Papa and Grandpa. Tim’s 5 grandchildren brought him happiness and many tears of joy even when he was dealing with great trials. He loved to spend time with them and did his best to spoil them every chance he got.

Tim is survived by his wife Leslie, his children Chelsea (Kirk), TJ (Charlotte), Madison (Bill), Emily (Chet), and Katie, as well as his grandchildren Ellie, Lucy, Liam, Trey, Tommy, and the two baby girls arriving this June. He is also survived by his siblings, Roger, Beth Anne, Neil, David, and Daniel, and preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Rebecca, and his eldest brother, Reed Jr.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 9:00 – 10:00 am with a Funeral Services at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3770 S. Cooper Road, Chandler, Arizona. Interment will follow at Mesa City Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street, Mesa, Arizona.
